Acupuncture

acupunctureWhat is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a primary health care system used by nearly one-third of the world. It is a comprehensive natural health care system used to preserve health and diagnose, treat, and prevent illness. The fundamental principles are to treat a person as an integrated whole in body, mind, and spirit to the root cause of illness and disease, not only symptoms.

How does it work?
The general theory of acupuncture is that proper physiological function and health depend on the circulation of nutrients, substances, and energy called Qi, through a network of “channels” or “meridians”. This network connects every part of the body, providing balance, regulation, and coordination of physiological processes. Acupuncturists stimulate the acu-points by inserting very thin needles through the skin to produce physiological effects. Pain and ill health result when the flow of Qi through the body is disrupted or blocked. This can be caused by many factors, including disease, pathogens, trauma/injuries, and medication side effects, as well as lifestyle factors such as overwork, poor diet, emotional imbalance, lack of rest, and stress.
